Obstructive Sleep Apnea or OSA, also known as Sleep Apnea is a condition where the body starves for oxygen. This is due to the collapse of the upper airway. Periods of apneas or collapse of the airway decreases the oxygen in the blood and can show up when tested with an oxygen saturation monitor also known as Overnight Oximeter (ONO). This is used as a preliminary screening tool to detech OSA. This by no means is the gold standard diagnostic method. A full polysomnography done in a sleep lab may be necessary in some situations. However, a keen Respiratory Physician trained in sleep disorders can diagnose most moderate to severe OSA patients.
